Online registration is closedThe first CPM was held in Singapore in 2003. Encouraged by its excellent reception, the competition was extended to other parts of Asia. In 2017, CPM extended its footprint to Hong Kong, Taiwan, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, India, Brunei, Cambodia, China and Sri Lanka, launched in a total of 12 countries and regions.
Beyond a showcase of creativity, Canon PhotoMarathon heightens the excitement through time pressure and endurance. Participants have to demonstrate a unique perspective in picture composition according to assigned themes within a short span of time. In true competition style, crossing the finishing line entails composure to perform under time pressure and the tenacity to last a grueling full-day marathon.
CPM 2018 is the 10th Canon PhotoMarathon Hong Kong with its highest quota of contestants yet, inviting 3,000 photographers to join the 2018 edition of this much-acclaimed event. We are grown from the first Canon PhotoMarathon Hong Kong in 2009 with 300 photography enthusiasts from across the city to compete in a day-long contest that challenged their skills and stoked their inspiration. This is an event that can be enjoyed by photography lovers of all skill levels with any brands of Interchangeable-lens type digital camera / digital compact camera.
The competition will return to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre’s Hall 1A on Saturday, 3 November 2018. Contestants in three categories – the Challenge, Student and new Corporate categories – will accept the "Shoot for Hong Kong" mission by taking photographs based on themes announced over several stages on the day of the event.
At the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre, it is not only the place for kick off ceremony and photo upload, but is the place with photo exhibition, souvenir booths for you to enjoy the fun of photography.
Contestants from the Challenge Category with longer competition time have to employ scenery changes from day to night and capture the beauty of darkness to create photos with enhanced diversity.
The new Corporate Category participants will have to pair in a team of 6 to challenge their teamwork to take photos of specific themes. Student Category welcomes full time students aged 15-22 to show their creativity through camera lens to capture city’s facets.
In addition to winning attractive category prizes, "Best of Show" winners from Challenge Category will claim a spot in the Canon PhotoMarathon Asia Championship to be held in 2019, valued at more than US$5,000. The Canon PhotoMarathon Asia Championship embark on intensive photography challenges in Japan. Apart from the chance to explore various facets of photography under the tutelage of a professional photographer, the event will also involve further theme challenges which be a test of mettle to select the champion among winners.
Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong (ADAHK) has been established as a non-profit and charitable organization since 1986. The Association is an affiliate of VSA (Very Special Arts) and a member of The Hong Kong Council of Social Service. With the vision of “Arts are for Everyone”, ADAHK believes that everyone has the potential and talent for creativity and a right to enjoy to the fullest beauty and vitality of arts. We are dedicated to providing holistic services to support the development of arts among people with disabilities. We promote equal opportunities for people with disabilities to have access to and excel in arts and advocate an inclusive society through arts. Canon Hongkong will donate 70% enrollment fees from the PhotoMarathon, which will be used to support professional development for people with disabilities; to develop and nurture their artistic talents, and to promote excellence in their work in the international stage.
The event’s carbon footprint has been measured, reduced and offset to achieve a carbon neutral status through the professional support from Carbon Care Asia Limited. The offset is sourced from the YGF Mangshi Household Biogas Tanks Project, certified in 2011 under the Gold Standard.
